THE BEST OF DEKALB

In 2012 Southern Living named Decatur, GA one of the top Tastiest Towns in the south. Local restaurant standouts include Cakes & Ale, named one of Bon Appetit’s best new restaurants in America with chef Billy Allin, a 2011 southeastern semi-finalist for the prestigious James Beard Foundation award. Notable newcomers to DeKalb’s restaurant roster are No. 246 and The Pinewood.

DeKalb County is famously family friendly no matter what your definition of family. We have eight parks, many with newly renovated and expanded playgrounds where exuberant running and jumping are encouraged. And we have three pools, including a brand new pool in McKoy park that features a “beach entry” access pool, a bubbler, and lap lanes for adults.

Here is where many local artists including Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins, John Mayer, Sugarland, Josh Joplin, Billy Pilgrim, Kristen Hall, Caroline Aiken, Michelle Malone, and Matthew Kahler got their starts before going on to receive national recognition. You may catch a rising star or enjoy a performance by a seasoned veteran musician. You never know who may be in town to make a surprise guest appearance on stage for old time’s sake!

There’s a festival for that! We invite you to enjoy our year-round calendar of concerts, festivals, special events and community projects. Whether you love jazz at the park or face painting at the fair, you will not be disappointed.
