DeKalb Chamber, Weebly to Host Website Bus Tour

DECATUR, Ga., – March 29, 2016 – The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Weebly, a global website builder tech firm, to empower entrepreneurs to create their own website at the “Like a Boss” Bus Tour on Friday, April 15 at Decatur Square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“In the digital age, having an online presence is essential for businesses looking for ways to stay competitive,” said Katerina Taylor, President and CEO of DeKalb Chamber. “We understand the value and impact of having an online presence, and encourage entrepreneurs to come build their own website with free professional help.”

The San Francisco based company is visiting 10 cities throughout the southeastern region and creating 1,000 bosses in 10 days. In addition to helping entrepreneurs build a website in just 45 minutes, Weebly web experts will host on-site web workshops; one on one website and ecommerce help; free headshots; swag and cash giveaways.

DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Top Performing Students

DECATUR, Ga., – March 26, 2016 – The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce held the annual PAGE STAR Student and Teacher Awards to honor high achieving students and teachers in DeKalb County’s public and private schools. Students and teachers from 26 area schools were recognized.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Program honors Georgia’s outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. During the past 58 years, the STAR Program has honored more than 23,500 high school seniors who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition.

During the program, DeKalb Chamber presented the annual $1,000 Alonzo L. McDonald, Sr. Scholarship to Chamblee Charter High School student Aomeng Cui who made a perfect score on the SAT. The scholarship is awarded to the highest scoring STAR student in DeKalb County.

DeKalb Chamber also recognized the system winners from DeKalb County School District (DCSD) and City Schools of Decatur (CSD) who will go on to compete in the PAGE STAR regional event. Chamblee Charter High School student Aomeng Cui and teacher Ms. Adrienne Keathley will represent DCSD. Decatur High School students Luke Downs and Nora Moore and teachers Mr. Chris Curtis and Mrs. Jennifer Gonzalez will represent CSD.

Sponsors include Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia-Pacific, Georgia United Credit Union, Peach State Credit Union, Publix Super Markets, DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Consolidated Copier Services.

DECATUR, Ga., – March 25, 2016 – DeKalb Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Katerina Taylor will participate in a C-Suite Roundtable on Tuesday, March 29 at the Hard Rock Café on Peachtree Street.

“I am honored to be a part of such an important Roundtable series hosted by the WNBA Atlanta Dream,” said Katerina. “I’m looking forward to sharing my story as the first woman president of the Chamber and hearing others.”

The roundtable will include Theresa Wenzel, Atlanta Dream President.

DeKalb Chamber, Dunwoody Perimeter Chamber Partner to Host Political Hobnob

DECATUR, Ga., – March 21, 2016 – Business, civic and community leaders are invited to hear from DeKalb qualifying electoral candidates at the DeKalb Chamber and Dunwoody Perimeter Chamber of Commerce joint Political Hobnob on April 4 at the Wild Wing Café in Dunwoody.

In preparation for the May 24 General Primary, candidates will share details about their platform and plans to lead DeKalb County. During the formal program, candidates will be allotted two minutes to speak.

“As with any election, it is crucial for our members and guests to make an informed vote about their future leaders in DeKalb County,” said Katerina Taylor, President and CEO of DeKalb Chamber. “This event will give them the opportunity to learn more about their candidates in a casual setting.”

This partnered event will take place at Wild Wing Café at 4788 Ashford Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody. Networking is from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Program begins at 6:00 p.m.

This event is open to the public. Cost to attend is $5. Registration includes appetizers prepared by Wild Wing Café and access to a cash bar.

DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May to Deliver State of the County Address

DECATUR, Ga., – March 2, 2016 – The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the Council for Quality Growth invite the business and local community to attend the DeKalb State of the County with Interim CEO Lee May on Thursday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Thalia N. Carlos Hellenic Center on 2500 Clairmont Road in Atlanta.

“It is important for us to host this event each year to keep our members and the community informed about the growth and progress in DeKalb County,” said Katerina Taylor, President and CEO of DeKalb Chamber.

During the State of the County address, May will review the county’s accomplishments in 2015 and unveil his vision for 2016. WSB-TV Anchor Erin Coleman will lead the conversation with May.
