DeKalb Chamber Urges Residents to Vote in General Election
DECATUR, Ga., Oct. 23, 2017 – The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce calls for local residents to participate in the upcoming General Election on November 7.
On the ballot, voters will decide whether to adopt a new equalized homestead options sales tax (EHOST) that will reduce property taxes for homeowners; to impose a six-year special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) that will generate funds for the county’s capital projects; and to continue to freeze property taxes for the duration of the SPLOST.
The DeKalb County SPLOST is expected to generate $388 million; each city in DeKalb will receive a portion of $248.7 million based on population.
“With a backlog of more than 318 miles of road to pave, the SPLOST will help provide the resources we need to fix our roads,” said Frederick L. Daniels, Jr., Chamber Board Chairman. “The SPLOST referendum must pass in order for us to raise the necessary funds for infrastructure, public safety and other needs.”
“This election is critical to the future development of DeKalb County and we encourage all residents to get out and vote,” said Katerina Taylor, Chamber President and CEO. “As we work to attract, promote and sustain business and economic development in DeKalb, we must enhance the quality of place for those who currently and potentially have a stake in the county. A ‘yes’ vote for the SPLOST will help grow our businesses and encourage future development.”
DeKalb early voting runs through November 3. For polling locations and more information, visit www.dekalbvotes.com.
