DeKalb Chamber of Commerce Seeking Membership Development Specialist

The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce is seeking a motivated, results-driven Membership Development Specialist to support the growth and retention of Chamber membership. This independent contractor role focuses on identifying, engaging, and securing new members while strengthening relationships with existing businesses across DeKalb County through sponsorship sales.

Job Description

  • POSITION: Membership Development Specialist
  • TYPE: Independent Contractor (1099)
  • COMPENSATION: Commission-based and performance-based (as defined in contract)
  • SCHEDULE: Flexible; results-driven
  • LOCATION: Hybrid / DeKalb County, GA
  • REPORTS TO: Membership Director
  • POSITION SUMMARY: The Membership Development Specialist serves as an ambassador of the Chamber, clearly communicating the value of membership, sponsorship opportunities, and Chamber programs to prospective and current members. The compensation offers a draw/commission structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, retain, and service new Chamber memberships through outreach, referrals, networking, and scheduled appointments
  • Communicate the benefits, programs, events, and advocacy efforts of the DeKalb Chamber to prospective members
  • Develop member engagement plans with Chamber members
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity, contacts, and progress using Chamber-designated systems
  • Identify opportunities for recruiting sponsorships to Chamber functions
  • Meet or exceed monthly and annual membership sales goals
  • Support member retention efforts through relationship management and follow-up
  • Attend Chamber events, meetings, and networking functions as needed to generate leads and build relationships
  • Collaborate with Chamber staff to align sales efforts with organizational priorities and initiatives
  • Represent the Chamber professionally in the business community

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sales, business development, membership sales, or relationship-based selling
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Comfortable with goal-based and commission-driven compensation
  • Familiarity with DeKalb County’s business community is a plus
  • Ability to use CRM systems, email, and standard productivity tools
  • Professional demeanor and strong follow-through

Independent Contractor Status

  • This position is classified as an independent contractor and will be issued an annual IRS Form 1099
  • Contractor is responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business expenses unless otherwise specified in the contract
  • This role does not include employee benefits and does not create an employer-employee relationship
